# Sites and Organization

> Organization and the remaining types you create yourself – no scan module produces them.

These types are not created by a scan. You create them by hand to give the
inventory its organizational frame.

You create *Locations* as environment data under
*Administration › Environment Data › Locations*, not as assets. See
[Manage Environment Data](/docs/en/settings/environment-data).

## Organization

Six types map how the business works and what it uses and holds:
*Business Service*, *Process*, *Department*, *Person*, *Application* and
*Information*. All six carry only a name; their value lies in the relations
you draw from them to the inventoried technology.

<Note>
  *Person* connects the organization to the accounts: every Docusnap365 user is
  also tracked as a person, but not every person has a user account.
</Note>

<Tip>
  The scan finds installations, not applications — that a database, an
  application server and a web frontend run on three servers does not yet say
  they form one application together. *Application* is therefore not the same
  as *Software Product*, see
  [Software and Integrations](/docs/en/assets/software-integrations). And a server
  is not protected for its own sake, but for the *Information* on it: only
  recorded separately can its different protection needs be told apart.
</Tip>

This level is the foundation for protection needs in the ISMS — the
technology comes from the scan, its meaning from this level.

## Further types without captured data

*Samsung*, *Samsung Galaxy Tab* and *Windows Surface* can be created but carry
no structured view — no scan module fills them.
