# Virtualization

> VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Proxmox and Citrix Xen – which types these scan modules create and how their detail pages are structured.

Five scan modules capture virtualized environments. Each breaks the
environment into several assets: the management level, the hosts, the
guests, and for some of them the virtual switches or bridges.

## VMware

Five types:

| Type | Group | Areas |
| - | - | - |
| VMware (vCenter) | vCenter Details | Tags, Warnings |
| VMware (vCenter) | Links | Datacenters, Hosts, Virtual Machines, Folder Structure, Networks, Datastores, Clusters, Resource Pools, Virtual Switches, Distributed Switches |
| VMware Host | Host Details | System Information, CPU Details, HBA Details, NIC Details, Network Infrastructure |
| VMware Host | Links | Attached Datastores, Hosted VMs, Assigned Warnings, Resource Pools, Virtual Switches, Distributed Switches |
| VMware VM | Virtualized Hardware | Disk Details, Partition Details, Network Details, Floppy Details, DVD/CD Details |
| VMware VM | VM Details | VM State, Tools State, HA Settings, Snapshot Details, Warnings, Annotations |
| VMware vSwitch / Distributed vSwitch | Details | Configuration Details, Port Group Details |

## Hyper-V

Three types: the *Hyper-V Server* with host configuration (host settings,
virtual switches, cluster configuration, replication service) and its VMs,
the *Hyper-V VM* with VM settings (BIOS boot order, checkpoints, security
settings), Services & Availability, and Hardware Configuration, and the
*Hyper-V Switch* with its assigned network adapters.

## Nutanix

Four types: the *Nutanix* cluster with all sixteen areas in a single
*Configuration* group — network, security and storage settings plus images,
volume groups and VMs — the *Nutanix Host* with operating state and system
components, the *Nutanix VM*, and the *Nutanix Virtual Switch* with bond
mode, MTU and the uplinks per host.

<Note>
  Nutanix is the only one of the five environments that carries security
  policies twice — once at the cluster level, once at the hypervisor level.
  The *Security Compliance* and *Hypervisor Security Compliance* areas are not the
  same thing.
</Note>

## Proxmox

Five types: the *Proxmox* cluster with eight groups — more than any other
type on this page — for Storage & Backup, Access Control, Software-Defined
Networking, Security & Access, High Availability, Resource Mapping and
advanced features (pools, Ceph); the *Proxmox Node* with hardware, storage
and enterprise features (Ceph, certificates, subscription); the *Proxmox VM*
and the *Proxmox Linux Container*, both with configuration, snapshots and
firewall rules; and the *Proxmox Bridge*, a node's network bridge with bridge
ports, IP configuration and options.

<Note>
  Only the *Proxmox VM* additionally carries a *VM Agent* group — guest
  operating system, timezone, logged-in users and file systems as reported by
  the optional QEMU guest agent. The Linux container has no such group.
</Note>

## Citrix Xen

Four types: the *XenServer* (pool) with Pooling & Availability,
Storage & Network and VMs & Workloads, the *XenServer Host* with
Configuration (authentication, license, restrictions), Runtime and System
Components, the *XenServer Network*, and the *XenServer VM* with
configuration, devices & connections, and snapshots.
