# Scanning Oracle Database

> Capturing Oracle databases with cluster, storage structure, operations and security.

The *Oracle Database* scan module captures Oracle databases. It requires a
connected [gateway](/docs/en/scan/gateway-install).

## Captured data

The scan creates assets of the type *Oracle*. The detail page groups the data
as follows:

| Group | Areas |
| - | - |
| General | Overview, Schemas |
| Cluster | Instances, Cluster Nodes, SCAN Listeners, Listeners, Services, Pluggable Databases |
| Storage | Tablespaces, Control Files, Redo Log Groups |
| Operations | Feature Usage Statistics, Backup Jobs, Components, Patches, Init Parameters, Archive Destinations, Options, Resource Manager Plans, Data Guard Configurations |
| Security | Roles, Profiles, Audit Policies, Network ACLs, Directories |

How the detail page of the type is structured is described in
[Databases](/docs/en/assets/databases).

## Setting up the job

The wizard follows the standard path *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* ›
*Summary*—see [Creating a Scan Job](/docs/en/scan/create-inventory). The
*Targets* step is what sets this module apart.

Each row carries five columns:

| Column | Content |
| - | - |
| *IP/Hostname* | the hostname of the database |
| *Service Name* | the service name of the database |
| *Credentials* | an entry of the type *User Account* |
| *Port* | the listener's port, prefilled with 1521 |
| *Also Capture Object Details* | per target, off by default |

Hostname, service name and port are in the configuration of the database. The
listener's configuration determines which port applies.

The *Credentials* column must be filled. An entry in
*Credentials for all targets* applies to every row without an assignment of
its own.

## Prerequisites

### Ports and protocols

| Protocol | Port | Transport |
| - | - | - |
| Oracle Listener | 1521 | TCP |
| Oracle Listener, unencrypted | 2483 | TCP/UDP |
| Oracle Listener, SSL | 2484 | TCP/UDP |

### Permissions

* The account is a suitably privileged user (DBA) or has at least these
  rights:
  * `CREATE SESSION`
  * `SELECT ANY DICTIONARY`

### Network requirements

* The firewall allows the port.

After it is created, the job appears among the jobs; how you watch and adjust
it is in [Managing Jobs](/docs/en/scan/manage-jobs). The ports of all scan modules
are in the [Scan Reference](/docs/en/scan/reference#ports-and-protocols).
