# Scan Modules – Overview

> Which sources Docusnap365 can capture – the 27 scan modules by category, with the guides for ten of them and the details for the rest.

A scan module stands for one kind of source. The catalog under
*Scan › Scan Modules* carries 27 modules in seven categories; which of them you
configure is decided by your environment. Through the *Filter…* field and
the buttons per category you narrow the selection down – the search runs over the
displayed title.

## The modules by category

| Category | Modules |
| - | - |
| *System* | [*Active Directory*](/docs/en/scan/active-directory), *DFS*, *Windows DHCP*, *Windows DNS*, *IP-Hosts*, *Linux*, [*Windows (AD)*](/docs/en/scan/windows), [*Windows (IP)*](/docs/en/scan/windows), *macOS* |

## Modules with a guide of their own

Twelve modules require entries in the wizard that the standard path does not know
– a different middle part, target columns of their own or options of their own.
They are described on separate pages in this group:

| Page | Modules | What deviates |
| - | - | - |
| [Active Directory](/docs/en/scan/active-directory) | *Active Directory* | no targets – only domain and credentials, plus two options on the scope |
| [Windows](/docs/en/scan/windows) | *Windows (AD)*, *Windows (IP)* | targets from the directory or entered yourself, plus the selection of the 22 Windows components |
| [SNMP](/docs/en/scan/snmp) | *SNMP v1 and v2*, *SNMPv3* | a community or a user account with encryption, plus *Timeout (ms)* and *Version* per target |
| [Cisco Meraki](/docs/en/scan/cisco-meraki) | *Cisco Meraki* | no targets – an API key |
| [Nutanix](/docs/en/scan/nutanix) | *Nutanix* | the target is a cluster; the clusters can be searched for through Prism Central |
| [Microsoft 365](/docs/en/scan/microsoft-365) | *Microsoft 365* | access through an Entra ID app instead of through targets |
| [Microsoft Intune](/docs/en/scan/microsoft-intune) | *Microsoft Intune* | the same Entra ID app, its own job |
| [Storage](/docs/en/scan/storage) | *Storage* | the target is an endpoint or a name, plus a *Provider* per row |
| [NTFS permissions](/docs/en/scan/ntfs-analysis) | *NTFS Security* | shares and permissions through a reusable analysis package |
| [File Import](/docs/en/scan/file-import) | *File Import* | an absolute folder path instead of targets |

## The remaining modules

These fifteen follow the standard path from
[Creating a Scan Job](/docs/en/scan/create-inventory). The table names which steps the
wizard shows and which columns a row in the table with the targets carries –
default values in brackets.

| Module | Category | Sequence of steps | Columns per target |
| - | - | - | - |
| *DFS* | System | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *Server Name*, *Credentials* |
| *Windows DHCP* | System | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *Server Name*, *Credentials* |
| *Windows DNS* | System | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *Server Name*, *Credentials* |
| *IP-Hosts* | System | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname* |
| *Linux* | System | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials*, *Port* (22), *Sudo* |
| *macOS* | System | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials*, *Port* (22) |
| *IP Phones* | Network | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname* |
| *Hyper-V* | Virtualization | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials* |
| *Proxmox* | Virtualization | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials* |
| *VMware* | Virtualization | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials* |
| *Xen* | Virtualization | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials* |
| *Microsoft SQL Server* | Other | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials*, *Authentication*, *Also Capture Object Details* (off) |
| *MySQL Server* | Other | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials*, *Port* (3306), *Also Capture Object Details* (off) |
| *Oracle Database* | Other | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Service Name*, *Credentials*, *Port* (1521), *Also Capture Object Details* (off) |
| *Veeam B\&R* | Other | *Basics* › *Targets* › *Schedule* › *Summary* | *IP/Hostname*, *Credentials* |

Three peculiarities cut across this table:

* *Windows DNS*, *Windows DHCP* and *DFS* can have their targets searched for in
Active Directory – above the table there is *Search DNS Servers*,
*Search DHCP Servers* and *Search DFS Servers* respectively.
* With *Windows DNS*, *Windows DHCP*, *DFS*, *Hyper-V* and
*Microsoft SQL Server* the *Credentials* column may stay empty: these scans are
allowed to run under the gateway's service account. With all others it is
  mandatory.
* *IP-Hosts* and *IP Phones* carry no column for credentials at all – a port scan
  needs no access data.

<Tip>
One source is enough for the first job. To a new tenant Docusnap365 suggests the
  three entry modules [*Active Directory*](/docs/en/scan/active-directory),
[*Windows (AD)*](/docs/en/scan/windows) and [*SNMP v1 and v2*](/docs/en/scan/snmp) in the
  *Most Common Modules* section.
