Apple macOS Documentation Made Easy

Computer systems made by Apple, known under the moniker Mac or Macintosh, can today be found in the majority of networks. With the Mac feature, Docusnap enables you to also scan these systems in an automated way and to store the retrieved information as structured data in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

Standard Interfaces

Docusnap uses standard interfaces and standard protocols to inventory Mac systems. The communication during the inventory scan is based on SSH and SFTP. These two protocols and technologies ensure an agent-free access and inventory process for Apple systems. In addition, you can choose to have your scans done periodically and automatically.

Docusnap scans the following data and information from the various Mac systems:

  • Hardware
  • Software
  • Network
  • Capacities

A detailed list of all values can be found in the linked PDF file or the sample documentations.

Easy Inventory Process

Similarly to the Windows and Linux features, the inventory process for Mac systems is either wizard-driven or scheduled using the Docusnap Server service. After you entered the desired IP ranges, Docusnap scans every single IP address for potential Mac systems by itself. The detected Mac systems are then inventoried automatically. As an alternative, you can schedule the inventory process as a batch task for the Docusnap Server.

Comprehensive Documents

For Mac systems, meaningful reports are available which Docusnap can generate at a click of the mouse. Docusnap also creates data sheets and and makes them available in various formats, such as PDF, HTML, or MS Word. You can choose to create, export and e-mail reports and data sheets in a fully automated way. Visualizations, such as a network plan or a network topology plan, can also cover the Mac systems, if desired.
