Warranties come into being in two ways: created by hand, or determined automatically through a manufacturer lookup. Both sit in the same ITAM › Warranties list, but they behave differently. The automatic share appears as a percentage in the Automatic tile.

What Is Locked on Automatic Warranties

An automatically determined warranty can barely be edited in the interface:
This also shows in the list: an automatic warranty carries no checkbox, so Edit Warranties and Delete act only on manually created warranties.
Description remains the only field you can change on an automatic warranty — everything else comes from the manufacturer and is overwritten at the next lookup.

Triggering a Refresh

The Refresh Warranties in the Background icon above the list triggers the manufacturer lookup for all automatically determined warranties, not only selected rows. The feedback appears immediately but only says whether the job was accepted:
The actual result arrives later as a notification through the bell — the immediate feedback says nothing about whether warranties were found or changed. While the call is running, a second click is blocked.

Recognizing Origin on the Asset

In the Warranty section on the asset, each entry carries its origin: Maintained Manually or Queried from Manufacturer, the latter with a lookup date where delivered. Neither the warranty list nor the detail page shows this timestamp.

Failed Lookups

The Error status is distinct from Inactive: Error means a failed manufacturer lookup, Inactive a warranty without valid coverage. The Error filter button pulls out exactly these cases.
Creating and Linking Warranties describes creating warranties by hand with coverages and assets. All status values are listed in the ITAM Reference.
