A scan module stands for one kind of source. The catalog under Scan › Scan Modules carries 27 modules in seven categories; which of them you configure is decided by your environment. Through the Filter… field and the buttons per category you narrow the selection down – the search runs over the displayed title.

Modules with a guide of their own

Twelve modules require entries in the wizard that the standard path does not know – a different middle part, target columns of their own or options of their own. They are described on separate pages in this group:

The remaining modules

These fifteen follow the standard path from Creating a Scan Job. The table names which steps the wizard shows and which columns a row in the table with the targets carries – default values in brackets. Three peculiarities cut across this table:
  • Windows DNS, Windows DHCP and DFS can have their targets searched for in Active Directory – above the table there is Search DNS Servers, Search DHCP Servers and Search DFS Servers respectively.
  • With Windows DNS, Windows DHCP, DFS, Hyper-V and Microsoft SQL Server the Credentials column may stay empty: these scans are allowed to run under the gateway’s service account. With all others it is mandatory.
  • IP-Hosts and IP Phones carry no column for credentials at all – a port scan needs no access data.
One source is enough for the first job. To a new tenant Docusnap365 suggests the three entry modules Active Directory, Windows (AD) and SNMP v1 and v2 in the Most Common Modules section.
The path into the wizard and the steps within it are in Creating a Scan Job. Fields, values and terms for looking up are in the Scan Reference. Which types a module produces and which areas show them is under Data Captured in the Assets area — ordered by topic, from systems through databases to network devices.
