SLG Prüf- und Zertifizierungs GmbH

SLG Prüf- und Zertifizierungs GmbH — an independent family company founded in 1992 with around 180 employees in Hartmannsdorf — modernized its IT documentation with Docusnap. The result: a central, always up-to-date “single source of truth” for assets, networks, authorizations and emergency planning. This reduces search times, makes risks more transparent and makes audits significantly easier.
Starting point in IT operations
IT is the backbone of business operations: 32 servers and 540 clients ensure product testing and certification. Previously, a lot of information was spread across SharePoint, Word and Excel. In day-to-day business, this led to search times, duplicates and absences. In addition, changes in the network often had to be coordinated with telephone queries and manual reconciliations, which slowed down operations and tied up capacities. For audits or inquiries from specialist departments, there was sometimes a lack of a consolidated view of devices, locations and authorizations, which led to inquiries and delayed decisions. “We wanted central, reliable documentation that really relieves us in everyday life,” says Thomas Frank, managing director, describing the initial situation.
Test phase and decision
After researching the Internet, SLG first launched a trial version of Docusnap. The application was convincing in a short time — the agentless inventory of over-standardized interfaces, the comprehensive SNMP recording of network components, transparent authorization overviews and integrated emergency planning addressed the requirements precisely. The aim was robust, auditable documentation and noticeably faster information.

Start-up and transition to everyday IT life
The existing test instance was put into production in April 2025 and migrated from a workstation to a server. No adjustments were necessary; the support team answered questions quickly and comprehensibly. “The start-up was quick and to our complete satisfaction,” summarizes the IT team. Regular scan intervals, notifications and simple deployment processes (onboarding of new systems) were set up in the first few days; the transfer to regular operations took place without interruption. The roles and rights concept is based on existing AD groups, so that only authorized employees have insight into sensitive areas and the specialist departments are provided with up-to-date reports in a targeted manner.
Transparency and speed in the network
The network transparency gained is particularly noticeable: The overall VLAN overview and the VLAN plan make dependencies visible and provide security in the event of changes. “The VLAN overview makes work much easier for us,” says the managing director. In addition, the port and device allocation per switch is comprehensible; layer 2 and layer 3 relationships are automatically recognized and visualized. Systems can be clearly assigned to buildings and locations; previous Excel maintenance is therefore largely omitted. Today, all you need to do when searching for a device is a glance at Docusnap — seconds instead of many queries. Even in the event of a fault or change, the distances are shortened because responsibilities are transparent. The required information is consistently available for audits and inquiries from specialist departments.
Added value in the company
SLG Prüf- und Zertifizierungs GmbH today has reliable, auditable IT documentation with clear responsibilities and current inventory and network data. The IT team frees up time for proactive tasks, while departments are informed more quickly and security and compliance requirements can be demonstrated more easily. Next steps include making even deeper use of authorization analysis and continuous linking of emergency planning with dynamic inventory data.
The overall VLAN overview and the VLAN plan make work much easier for us.
