The beginning
A problem we lived with every single day
itelio GmbH, based in Kiefersfelden, has been serving mid-market businesses as an IT service company since 2004. Part of the daily routine for its IT professionals: documenting servers, drawing network maps, reviewing permissions – by hand, in spreadsheets on a file share. Whenever a customer was asked about the current state of their IT environment, a sufficient answer rarely came back: the knowledge sat in folders, in emails and in the heads of individual employees.
At some point the question came up why this work was being done by hand. The protocols and interfaces needed to read systems automatically were already there.
The first version of Docusnap was built that same year. Built for their own needs, tested in their own operations, funded from their own revenue. What started as an internal tool solved a problem the entire industry recognised. Other IT service companies asked for it, and the first customers came on board.
In 2020, Docusnap GmbH was founded as a family-run company and spun off from itelio GmbH. That did not separate the two: itelio works in the same offices, is a customer of the software it helped create, and brings the daily reality of an IT service provider back into development every day. The IT professionals are all in the building.
